Kurt Vile has announced a new EP, Back to Moon Beach, which arrives November 17 via Verve. He’s also shared a new single from the nine-song project, “Another Good Year for the Roses,” along with a semi-psychedelic music video. The clip stars Vile, Philadelphia band Florry, and percussionist Mikel Patrick Avery, jamming in the forest. The visual also features actors Michael Shannon, Kevin Corrigan, and David Wilke, portraying their real-life music project Big Daddy in the Sky. The clip culminates with everybody joining forces for a gig at New York venue Otto’s Shrunken Head. Check out the video below, and scroll down for the record’s tracklist and Vile’s upcoming schedule of tour dates.
Back to Moon Beach includes Vile’s prior cover of Bob Dylan’s “Must Be Santa” (featuring vocals from his daughters, Awilda and Delphine), as well as a version of Wilco’s “Passenger Side.” A deluxe double-LP version of the record will also feature a 10th track: Vile’s rendition of Charli XCX’s “Constant Repeat.”
“Another Good Year for the Roses” features Cate Le Bon (who also co-produced the track) and Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint. Back to Moon Beach was pieced together from various recording sessions from the past four years, and tracked between Panoramic Studios in Stinson Beach, California, Mant Sounds in Los Angeles, and Vile’s own studio, OKV, in Philadelphia. In addition to Le Bon and Mozgawa, the record features contributions from Dave Scher, Mikel Patrick Avery, Chris Cohen, engineers Adam Langelotti and Matt Schuessler, and Vile’s longtime creative partner Rob Laakso, who died earlier this year.
