If you’ve been scouring the internet for your next guitar you’ve probably come across the term ‘B-Stock’, but what does it mean? Generally speaking, a B-Stock instrument is an item that cannot be sold as new. This could be due to the instrument being removed from its original packaging or having a minor cosmetic imperfection.
What does it mean when a guitar is labelled as B-Stock?
We can’t vouch for other retailers, but any B-Stock instrument at Kenny’s Music has been purchased directly from the supplier in such a condition. This means you still get the full manufacturer’s warranty alongside your purchase. Also, if there is a minor imperfection on a B-Stock item we will only accept it if it has an aesthetic imperfection, not a functional one. If the item has a functional issue we aren’t interested in stocking it. In most instances, the aesthetic defect is minor, possibly even tricky to detect ourselves.
What are examples of B-Stock cosmetic imperfections?
Examples of such cosmetic blemishes include minor lacquer cracks in the guitar’s neck pocket, a blemish on the wood under a gloss finish or even a slight bit of finish bleed into the binding. Either way, it’s nothing to fret about and B-Stock instruments are very much worthy of some love.

Is it worth buying a B-Stock guitar?
So, what’s the point in stocking B-Stock instruments? Well, it gives the customer (i.e. you) an opportunity to snag a perfectly functioning instrument at a much-reduced price. It also means that instruments that have a slight issue when passing through quality control aren’t destroyed and wasted, after all, there’s nothing more devastating than the thought of an instrument being passed onto the incinerator.
