The Raincoats’ bassist, Gina Birch, has announced her debut solo album. It’s titled I Play My Bass Loud and will arrive February 24 via Third Man. Birch has shared the new single “Wish I Was You,” which features Thurston Moore on guitar. It also comes with a music video directed by Birch’s daughter Honey. Check it out below.
“The album distills my years of musical, political, and artistic life with these genre-breaking songs,” Birch said in a statement. “It’s a personal diary using sounds and lyrics, full of fun, rage, and storytelling.”
I Play My Bass Loud spans 11 tracks in total, including “Wish I Was You” and “Feminist Song.” The album’s title track features additional bass by Jane Crockford (of the Modettes) and Emily Elhaj (of Angel Olsen’s band).
The Raincoats released four studio albums during their career, beginning with their self-titled debut in 1979 and concluding with Looking in the Shadows in 1996. In 2011, they reissued their sophomore record, Odyshape.
