BENGALURU: Ahead of the beginning of India’s commercial satellite launch on a rocket other than the PSLV, Bharti-backed OneWeb on Tuesday said that 36 of its satellites have reached the spaceport in Sriharikota for the planned launch on India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV-Mk3).
The launch of the satellites, as part of OneWeb’s constellation, will be done through space PSU, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), as reported by TOI earlier.
The space PSU — which as part of its extended mandate, has at least six commercial missions planned over the next 18 months, including two GSLV-Mk3 and three PSLV launch missions, and one dedicated satellite mission — is more than doubling its manpower to implement the growing commercial missions it has in its pipeline.
The first among them will be the launch of a constellation for Bharti-backed OneWeb onboard a GSLV-Mk3.
The second GSLV-MK3 mission will also be for OneWeb, while the three PSLV missions will be for other foreign customers, including a repeat customer.
While the OneWeb launch was initially planned for September, it may be pushed to October now, as per sources. NSIL is yet to make a public statement on the matter.
After this, NSIL is looking at the second OneWeb launch early next year, followed by the three PSLV launches.
