The National Investigation Agency (NIA) questioned two people linked to the Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with the murder of Amravati-based chemist Umesh Kolhe.
The agency questioned PFI district president Soyal Nadavi in connection with possible funding to the accused in the Umesh Kolhe murder case. Nadavi is under detention by the NIA officials.
The NIA conducted searches at several locations in Amravati after names of few more suspects emerged during the investigation.
Speaking to India Today, Sohail Nadvi’s brother, Muzammil, said, “NIA team came and conducted searches. They came without informing us, but still we cooperated. They searched the house, took Aadhaar card and my brother is being questioned by them. He is district president of Amravati. He joined PFI around one and half year back. I don’t think my brother knows anyone involved in murder of Umesh Kolhe.”
Last week, the NIA team arrived in Maharashtra’s Amravati to probe the murder of Umesh Kolhe, who was allegedly killed over a social media post supporting Nupur Sharma.
Chemist Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe was stabbed to death in Amravati on June 21, a week before two men murdered Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur.
The police arrested seven people in connection with the case. The seventh accused, and the alleged master-mind in the murder, was arrested last week in connection with Kolhe’s killing.
The arrested accused include Irfan Khan (32), the alleged master-mind behind the murder, along with Mudassar Ahmed alias Sonu Raza Sheikh Ibrahim (22), Shahrukh Pathan alias Badshasha Hidayat Khan (25), Abdul Taufik alias Nanu Sheikh Taslim (24), Shoeb Khan alias Bhurya Sabir Khan (22), Atib Rashid Aadil Rashid (22) and Yusuf Khan Bahadur Khan (44).
