The flood situation in Assam further improved on Thursday, as the water receded from six more districts in the state. While 9.06 lakh people across 12 districts of the state are still affected by the deluge, 17,068 hectares of cropland are inundated at present.
Districts including Bajali, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Tamulpur are still in the grip of floods.
CACHAR WORST-HIT
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its daily flood report stated that Cachar is the worst-hit district with over 5.63 lakh people affected by the deluge, while the number of flood victims in Nagaon and Morigaon are 1,56,731 and 1,51,842, respectively.
On the other hand, one child lost his life in Silchar town of Cachar district in the past 24 hours. The floods and landslides in the state have so far claimed 187 lives since April this year. While 169 people died in flood-related incidents, 18 were killed in landslides.

The authorities are currently running 207 relief camps in 12 districts, where a total of 91,594 people have taken shelter, the ASDMA report stated.
CENTRE EXTENDS MONETARY HELP
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday informed that the Centre has released Rs 324.40 crore as an advance share of the State Disaster Response Fund for 2022-23 to the state which has been ravaged by floods and landslides this year.
“We’re immensely grateful to Hon PM Shri @narendramodi ji for the generous act of the Central Government for release of Rs 324.40 cr as advance share of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). This will help combat the current floods and also in making provisions for flood victims,” CM Sarma tweeted.
