The flood situation in Assam improved on Sunday, even though nearly 18.36 lakh people across 26 districts continue to suffer from the deluge.
Floods have affected 1618 villages in 26 districts, including Bajali, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, and Udalguri.
Cachar has been hit the hardest, with nearly 10.20 lakh people affected, followed by Nagaon with nearly 3.75 lakh and Morigaon with nearly 1.76 lakh.
The total number of people killed in this year’s floods and landslides has risen to 179, with five more killed in the state in the last 24 hours. While Nagaon reported two deaths, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, and Sivasagar districts each reported one death. Of these, 161 people died in flood-related incidents, while 18 people were killed in landslides.
The authorities are operating 365 relief camps in 20 districts, housing over 2.78 lakh people. On the other hand, a total of 47198.87 hectares of cropland have been damaged.
Houses, roads, bridges, culverts, and other infrastructure have been damaged in a variety of locations throughout the affected districts.
The deluge has affected ten anti-poaching camps at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district as well as 5,90,949 domestic animals and poultry across 12 districts of the state.
Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra River has risen above the danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat, Dhubri, and Tezpur. However, its tributaries, Kopili at Dharamtul in Nagaon, Disang at Nanglamuraghat in Sivasagar, and Burhidihing at Khowang in Dibrugarh, are all flowing above the danger level.
