PANIPAT: Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by MP Rahul Gandhi, re-entered the BJP-ruled Haryana from Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening.
Haryana Congress unit chief Udai Bhan and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda welcomed Rahul and other yatris at Sanoli border in Panipat district.
However, after entering Haryana, Rahul went back to Delhi from Panipat’s Sanoli because his mother Sonia Gandhi was unwell.
Hooda said that Sonia has been admitted to hospital with a viral infection. Rahul will return to Panipat on Friday morning and will resume the yarta from Sanoli-Panipat bypass road at 6am.
Hooda said that Congress MP Gandhi will address a public meeting on Sector 13-17 HUDA ground in Panipat.
“The yatra will cover Haryana’s Karnal, Kurukshetra and Ambala districts from January 5 to 10 and will enter Punjab on January 11,” he said.
The Panipat district administration has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Panipat from January 5 to 7. A huge police force has been deployed to ensure there is no untoward incident.
Panipat rally will be historic: Hooda
Congress has finalised all the preparations before the start of the second phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana. Former chief minister and leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda visited the rally site and reviewed the preparation.
Hooda said the Bharat Jodo Yatra has successfully covered a distance of about 3,000km.
“It is getting tremendous support across the country. Haryana is going to break its own record in terms of gathering. A large number of people will also participate in the Bharat jodo rally to be held in Panipat. This rally will prove to be historic in terms of public participation,” he claimed.
Hooda added Rahul’s campaign against inflation, unemployment and divisive politics in the name of caste and religion is getting tremendous support.
Responding to questions on the issue of SYL, Hooda said the governments of Punjab and Haryana are just passing the time by holding meetings.
“The Supreme Court has already given its decision in the favour of Haryana. Now it is the responsibility of the Union and the Haryana governments to implement it. Therefore, instead of holding meetings on this issue, action should be taken to implement it,” he said.
