JAIPUR: After the exit polls predicted a very close fight in Rajasthan, both the BJP and the Congress are bracing up for last-minute manoeuvring.
While Congress is contacting the winnable Independents in case the party falls short of the magic number of 100, BJP has directed all the MLAs to collect their certificates and reach Jaipur by Monday. BJP is also in touch with party rebels in case the party needs their support to cross the halfway mark.
Elections were held for the 199 seats out of 200 as one Congress candidate died during the polls.
One Congress leader said, “We are contacting party rebels and Independents as we are quite sure of edging past BJP and forming the government.” The Congressmen on Thursday thronged party president Govind Singh Dotasra’s residence to congratulate him even before the results were out.
The BJP leaders, however, expressed confidence that the party would get an absolute majority. BJP’s election management committee convenor Narayan Panchariya targeted the Congress leaders over their premature celebrations. Panchariya termed Dotasra’s statement about party getting an absolute majority as a misunderstanding and said that his misunderstanding should have been cleared after the massive voting given by the people of the state.
He said the people of Rajasthan are suffering from the misrule of Congress. Now they will see the rise of good governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said.
