PATNA/GAYA: A Chinese woman overstaying her visa in India has been traced and detained by police in Bodh Gaya and will soon be deported to China after intelligence agencies raised an alarm about a “possible Chinese spy” in town and increased the security of the Dalai Lama, who is delivering religious sermons in the temple town. “We got inputs about a Chinese woman overstaying (her visa) in India who was in Bodh Gaya as a nun,” SSP Harpreet Kaur told TOI. “During enquiry and screening of her documents, it was revealed a ‘leave India’ notice has been served on her,” Kaur said.

The action was taken as she was allowed to stay in India for 90 continuous days only, which she violated. Now the woman is being sent to FRRO, New Delhi, for further action (deportation),” Kaur said. Gaya police had earlier issued sketches of the Chinese woman, who was traced to a hotel and identified as Song Xiaolan.
ADGP (headquarters) Jitendra Singh Gangwar said a security alert was sounded in Bodh Gaya due to the presence of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama. Senior Bihar police officers played down rumours regarding a threat to the Dalai Lama’s life.
The Chinese woman arrived in India for the first time on October 19, 2019, and travelled to Bodh Gaya to attend the Dalai Lama’s teachings.
