A dead dolphin washed ashore on Pati Sonepur beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday morning.
On receiving the information, the Berhampur Forest Division officials rushed to the spot and began investigations into the cause of the death.
Locals also gathered on the beach as the news about the dolphin spread in the area.
As efforts are underway by Odisha Tourism to make Pati Sonepur a ‘Blue Flag’ beach to attract national and international tourists, locals said that frequent incidents of dead dolphins washing ashore were a cause of concern.
Forest officials said that the dolphin could have died of old age. The exact reason will be known after the post-mortem report.
