“I was dismayed to see the manner in which our respected Vice President was humiliated in the Parliament complex.Elected representatives must be free to express themselves, but their expression should be within the norms of dignity and courtesy. That has been the Parliamentary tradition we are proud of, and the people of India expect them to uphold it,” the President posted on X.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also conveyed his pain over the theatrics by a member in the ‘sacred’ Parliament complex, labeling it as ‘unfortunate.’ In a telephone call, PM Modi expressed his distress over the disrespectful behavior and highlighted that he, too, had faced similar insults over two decades. Dhankhar shared the Prime Minister’s sentiments on social media, underscoring the unfortunate nature of such incidents occurring within the Parliament complex.
“I received a telephone call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. He expressed great pain over the abject theatrics of some Honourable MPs and that too in the sacred Parliament complex yesterday. He told me that he has been at the receiving end of such insults for twenty years and counting but the fact that it could happen to a Constitutional office like the Vice President of India and that too in the Parliament was unfortunate,” VP Dhankar posted on X.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi demanded an apology from the INDIA bloc over the mimicry incident, accusing the opposition of attempting to tarnish the image of the Vice President. Joshi criticized the deliberate insults to President Droupadi Murmu and condemned the actions of Kalyan Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi.
“Their party attitude is against kisan (farmers), tribal and Jat communities. Congress and the Ghamandiya alliance should apologize. They tried to belittle the Vice President’s image. This is highly condemnable. If a little sense prevails in you, then you should apologize. I condemn the actions of Kalyan Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi,” Joshi added.
The suspension of 49 more opposition MPs from Lok Sabha brought the total number of suspended MPs to 141, with Joshi highlighting the condemnation of the actions on social media.
