Assam Police has seized a huge consignment of drugs worth approximately Rs 7 crore in the international market from Kamrup district.
Based on a tip-off, the police intercepted a pick-up vehicle in the Borka area under the Kamalpur sub-division and on thorough checking, 1 kg heroin, 5 kg of raw opium and a total of 2,304 addictive tablets were found concealed in the spare tire, music system and seats of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, however, managed to escape from the spot.

Kamrup Superintendent of Police Hitesh Chandra Rai said, “Our team was able to intercept the pick-up vehicle and you won’t believe we recovered 1 kg heroin, 5 kg raw opium, and around 2,300 SPS tablets concealed in the spare tire, speaker, and seats. The driver, however, escaped. The market value of the seized drugs is approximately Rs 7 crore.”

A case has been registered at the Changsari Police Station and further investigation is on.
Assam Police has seized drugs worth over Rs 548 crore in less than a year after the BJP-led Assam government launched a war on drugs in the state. Till May this year, the Assam Police has registered 2,834 cases under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested more than 4,838 people involved in the drug trade.
