JAIPUR: After a brief lull following the storm over an aborted Congress legislature party (CLP) meeting and chief minister Ashok Gehlot bowing out of the party president’s race, political activity is gathering momentum again in Raja sthan. Sachin Pilot, who reached Jaipur on Monday evening, started reaching out to his detractors. He paid a visit to food and civil supplies minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, his o ne-time confidante who is now a Gehlot loyalist, and remained closeted with him for over an hour at his bungalow on Monday night. On Tuesday, Khachariyawas called on Gehlot at the CMO around 2 pm.
Talking to reporters later, Khachariyawas — who had been vocal in his support of Gehlot continuing as CM when the Congress MLAs had boycotted the CLP meeting on September25 — played down his “friendly chat over coffee” with Pilot. “We sit next to each other in the assembly and often talk. If he comes to my house, there is nothing new in it,” he said.
Khachariyawa s, however, piqued the media’s interest with his next comment. “If Pilot comes, it is obvious that we will not sing bhajans. We discussed all kinds of things but these cannot be shared, ” he said. Pilot, who met a host of Congress workers and m embers at his residence, keptmum on the recent developments in the party and left for Delhi on Tuesday.
Junior minister Rajendra Sing h Gudha, who recently switched to the Pilot camp, met the ex-deputy CM on Tuesday. “ There has been a conspiracy against Pilot. He has been surrounded like Abhimanyu,” he said.
Comparing the CLP boycott with Pilot’s revolt in 2020, Gudha remarked,“If Pilot does it, it’s dubbed as treachery; if they (Gehlot supporters) do it, it is loyalty to the party. ”
