“We have today lodged a strong protest through diplomatic channels with the Chinese side on the so called 2023 “standard map” of China that lays claim to India’s territory, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in response to media queries on the map.
Earlier today, external affairs minister S Jaishankar denounced China for releasing an official “standard map” which includes Indian territory. Dismissing the move as an “old habit”, Jaishankar said that just by including other countries’ territories in a map does not change anything.
China officially released the 2023 edition of its “standard map” on August 28 which shows Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as part of its territory. Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea are also included within the Chinese territory in the new map.
