LUCKNOW: An inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the incident related to the death two people due to “suffocation” in Mathura’s Banke Bihari temple on Krishna Janmashtami on August 19-20.
Two people died of “suffocation” and seven were injured during the Janmashtami celebrations at the Banke Bihari temple.
The committee will probe into the circumstances which led to the unfortunate incident at the temple and submit a report within 15 days.
The Uttar Pradesh government issued a notice in this regard on Saturday, saying a committee was formed to investigate the reasons behind the incident and suggest corrections and improvements required on the temple premises to manage the huge rush of devotees better to avoid such mishaps in future.
The circular also mentioned the officials who will constitute the committee and conduct the investigation. It will be headed by Sulkhan Singh, former IPS officer who has served as the director general of Uttar Pradesh Police. He will be accompanied by Gaurav Dayal who is presently serving as the divisional commissioner of Aligarh district.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences and termed the incident heart-breaking.
“The loss of life in the accident in Shri Banke Bihari temple complex of Mathura is extremely heart-wrenching. Instructions have been given to the officials for proper treatment of injured. My condolences are with the bereaved family. May the Almighty grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families. Om Shanti,” the CM said.
The deceased have been identified as Nirmala Devi and Ram Prasad Vishwakarma who were declared dead at a hospital, police said.
Another pilgrim collapsed at the exit gate of the temple, resulting in restricted movement of devotees. The incident occurred during Mangalarti. The temple saw a massive crowd due to the festival.
