BIJNOR: The forest department arrested two men from Haridwar in possession of 38 turtles of an endangered species in Najibabad area of Bijnor on Wednesday.
Subdivisional forest officer Gyan Singh said, “Kareem and Haqumat from Ghosipura in Haridwar admitted they had caught turtles from the Kho river.”
“A joint team of police and forest staff recovered 38 turtles and a bike from them.Most were Indian Flapshell turtles and Indian Black turtles. All recovered turtles were released into the river on Thursday,” he added.
ASP Sanjeev Vajpai said, “Both have been booked under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act. The probe is ongoing.”
