BHUBANESWAR: On a day PM Modi chaired an NDA meeting in New Delhi and opposition parties concluded a two-day ‘unity’ meeting in Bengaluru, the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD reiterated its position of being equidistant from both the political groupings, reports Ashok Pradhan.
Even as Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik is said to be unhappy that the state is not getting the kind of support it should from the Centre in a system of cooperative federalism, senior BJD functionaries Prasanna Acharya and Debi Prasad Mishra separately maintained that the regional party is very clear on its agenda of putting the state’s interest at the forefront.
Acharya, a former state minister and an ex-MP, said the BJD has been very candid and open about being equidistant from both the NDA and the UPA (now INDIA). “There is no change in that position,” Prasanna said. “BJD’s support to any issue at the national level is always governed by national interest while we are committed to take any step which is in Odisha’s best interest. There is no question of politically siding with any coalition,” he added.
Debi said the BJD stands to achieve its regional aspirations while being equidistant from the NDA and INDIA.
