MUMBAI: Bombay high court vacation bench on Tuesday suspended a Look Out Circular and allowed actor Rhea Chakraborty to travel to Dubai for a week for a Pet food meet and greet event as its brand ambassador from Wednesday, December 27 to January 2, 2024.
Chakraborty had sought suspension of the LOC for a week and permission to travel abroad. The LOC was issued in connection with the alleged abetment of her former boyfriend and actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case of 2020.She said she has been falsely implicated The first information report (FIR) was lodged by Rajput’s father and on a consent of the Bihar government the FIR was transfererred to the CBI on August 4, 2020.
Through her counsel Abhinav Chandrachud with advocates with Janay Jain and Prasanna Bhangale she contended it was a fundamental right to travel. They argued that the chargesheet in the case was not yet filed against her. The CBI through counsel Shriram Shirsat opposed her plea questioning the jurisdiction of the high court granting her any relief. Its affidavit dated December 26, said CBI had “learnt from reliabel sources that she was no longer the brand ambassador of ‘Drools Pet Food’ which had sent the invitation for the trip.
At the last hearing the CBI had said it wanted to verify the genuineness of the email and had sought time which the high court had granted on December 20. On December 22, Drools, the company informed CBI that as per her old contract, her deliverables are pending against which they were arranging the meet and greet with her support.
CBI reply said these “deliverables’’ are to be in Mumbai and “there is no question of travelling to Dubai’’ and sought dismissal of her application, adding she may flee. The vacation bench of Justices Kamal Khata and Jitendra Jain after hearing suspended the LOC and permitted her to travel on conditions earlier set for her brother too.
