AGRA/BAREILLY/SHAHJAHANPUR: PM Modi on Thursday hit out at the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance at three poll rallies in UP — Agra, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur. “They aim to take away rights of OBCs like Yadav, Kurmi, Maurya, Kushwaha, Jat-Gujjar, Rajbhar, Teli, and Pal, and give them to their ‘preferred’ vote bank,” Modi said at Kothi Meena Bazaar ground in Agra, where he addressed the first rally.
“The SP, for its own gains, is betraying Yadavs and backward classes. This appeasement-driven mindset defines both SP and Congress, who aim to surreptitiously redistribute OBC rights… Will you let go of your property to the corrupt SP-Congress alliance?” he asked the crowd.
Invoking the term “chowkidar” again which he had deployed extensively in the 2019 LS polls, the PM said, “They’ve their eyes on the savings of our mothers and sisters, but I’m standing as your watchman (chowkidar)… ‘Jab tak Modi zinda hain, aisa koi bhi paap karne se phele apko Modi se nipatna padega’…” “Corrupt individuals will be investigated, and the money they’ve stolen from the poor will be returned to them. We are seeking legal advice on how to recover the looted money, including bungalows and vehicles seized from these corrupt individuals,”he further said.
During his 39-minute speech in Agra, Modi targeted the opposition extensively. “Whether in Karnataka or Andhra, Congress has persistently pushed for religion-based reservation. Despite constitutional and judicial constraints, it is determined to pursue this agenda. Their strategy involves reallocating OBC quota, as seen in Karnataka, where all Muslim castes were included in OBC category… Congress’s manifesto for 2024 elections bears 100% imprint of ‘Muslim League’, while Modi focuses on uplifting the poor,” he said, adding he himself comes from ‘OBC background’.
“There is poverty in people belonging to the general category and I cared about them and ensured 10% ‘reservations’ for them without touching the reservations of anyone else. All this was implemented peacefully without any hue and cry in the country. Everyone in the country accepted that the sons of Brahmin, Kshtriya or ‘Baniya’ can be poor. Now people are getting benefits of the same. But, Congress and SP want to snatch the rights of SC, ST and OBC,” he later said in Shahjahanpur, adding “this place is mainly an agricultural area and Congress is planning to snatch your farm lands”.
Modi further claimed in Agra the “Congress-SP and ‘INDI alliance’ plans to impose a 55% tax on inheritance”. He added: “They claim they will investigate your belongings using the Congress prince’s X-ray machine, seizing everything and redistributing it. They’ll seize a significant portion of what you leave for your children. If you built a four-room house, only two rooms will go to your children, the rest seized by Congress-SP. Similarly, if you own 10 bighas of land, only five will be inherited by your kids. They will even take women’s ‘mangalsutra’. Are you ready to surrender your property to them?” Incidentally, Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda, who is also a close confidante of the Nehru-Gandhi family, had triggered a controversy on Wednesday with his remark on “inheritance laws in the US”. Congress later distanced itself from Pitroda’s remark.
Reiterating his earlier comment, the PM, in support of BJP’s Agra candidate SP Singh Baghel and Fatehpuri Sikri nominee Rajkumar Chahar, said, “A new scheme by Congress-INDI alliance has emerged, and that is ‘Congress ki loot… zindagi ke saath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi’… But, we are ending ‘tushtikaran’ (appeasement) and working for ‘san-tushtikaran’ (satisfying people).”
During his 28-minute speech in Bareilly’s Aonla, Modi claimed, “Before I came to power, the UPA govt tried to give religion-based reservation in UP. At that time, they didn’t succeed, this time again they (Congress and SP) are trying to do the same.”
He further said that “Ten years ago, SP and Congress used to make fun of BJP and say ‘mandir wahi banayenge, tareek nahi batayenge…’ I used to listen silently and with your blessings, we made Ram Mandir there. We told them the date, place, time and gave them an invitation as well, but their ego is bigger than Shri Ram, so they didn’t accept the invitation.”
In Shahjahanpur, his third rally in UP, the PM — in his 44-minute address — appealed to first-time voters, saying, “Before I came to power, there were announcements made at railway stations, bus stations, on television that if you see any unclaimed thing, bag, tiffin anywhere, do not touch it because there was a fear that there would be a bomb in the unclaimed things and hence the entire govt had to tell this to people every day. After 2014, have you ever heard such information?… It is the power of your vote that stopped big explosions. Because you voted for the right people.”
Taking a jibe, the PM said that this time the Gandhi family won’t be able to vote for Congress as “no party candidate is contesting from their seat”.
Modi further claimed, “Whenever they (Congress) have to commit a misdeed, they start raising a hue and cry in the name of the country and the Constitution. By raising similar slogans in the 70s, Congress had imposed Emergency, turned the country into a prison, shut down newspapers and put lakhs of democracy-lovers behind bars. Once again Congress has released its flop film. There are two dialogues in this film: First, if Modi wins, dictatorship will come. Second, if Modi wins, reservation will go away. They keep spreading such lies…”
