NEW DELHI: With the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission deciding that all cases listed before the registrar from February 10 (Friday) onwards “shall be heard through virtual/hybrid court hearing, in addition to physical hearing”, NCDRC has become the latest entity to start virtual hearing of cases.
Sources said the consumer affairs ministry had repeatedly urged the national commission to start virtual courts. “Earlier there was repeated demand to set up circuit benches in different parts of the country,” said an official. Since virtual court can serve that purpose, the government could avoid the “wasteful expenditure” of setting up circuit benches, he said.
Officials said since cases from across the country reach NCDRC and as the objective of setting up of consumer panels is to deliver justice to consumers without any financial burden, the need for virtual hearing has gained more importance. They said even state and district consumer panels are now going for virtual hearing of cases.
