NEW DELHI: India on Monday recorded 3,641 fresh Covid-19 cases and 11 deaths – three from Maharashtra and one each in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan, reports DurgeshNandan Jha. The Covid death toll recorded in the last 24 hours also includes four deaths reconciled by Kerala.
As per the Union health ministry, the daily positivity rate of Covid-19 currently stands at 6.1% while the weekly positivity touched 2.4%. As many as 72 districts have greater than or equal to 10% positivity rate. This includes nine out of total 11 districts in Delhi, 12 districts from Kerala and six districts from Maharashtra.
“Covid cases have been rising consistently. However, there isn’t any significant rise in hospitalisations,” a health ministry official said. He also said the surge is mainly on account of emergence of XBB.1.16, a sub-lineage of Omicron variant, which has high transmissibility and immune-escape properties. “Our researchers are probing the variant’s immune escape properties and the potential to cause severe illness,” the official said.
