The extra vigil is being extended to other prisons where arrested aides of Atiq and jailed gangster Mukhtar Ansari are lodged. The state police administration has directed the jail superintendents to personally monitor visitors of these inmates and keep the headquarters updated.

A set of guidelines has been issued for jails housing convicts and undertrials in terror cases. “A list of 10 most frequent visitors seeking to meet these inmates must be compiled and their verification done by the respective district police chiefs,” states the order issued by the DGP R K Vishwarkarma .
The order mentions that all such meetings must be under CCTV surveillance, and in the presence of personnel from the local intelligence unit, along with the jailor and deputy jailor.

The DGP has also constituted a three-member supervisory panel to assist the special investigation team (SIT) set up by the Prayagraj police commissioner to probe how Atiq and Ashraf’s killers breached a multi-layer security cordon and gunned them down in front of TV cameras.
The SIT comprises additional DCP Satish Chandra, ACP Satyendra Prasad Tiwari and inspector Om Prakash of Kotwali police station. ADG (Prayagraj) Bhanu Bhaskar, Prayagraj police commissioner Ramit Sharma and Forensic Science Lab director Sudhir Kumar make up the supervisory panel.
A senior officer at the police headquarters said the supervisory team’s brief was to look into all legal aspects such as writs submitted in the courts in connection with the murder of Atiq and Ashraf.
