NEW DELHI: A strong earthquake tremors were felt across Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) regions late on March 21, 2023. The tremors were also felt in the many parts of northern India including Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh.
As per German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), the magnitude of today’s earthquake was 6.8 and the centre was Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan. The quake was at a depth of 184 km (114 miles), GFZ added. More details are awaited.
Powerful earthquake jolts felt in Pakistan
The earthquake on March 21 shook the areas of Pakistan as well, causing widespread panic in public. The tremors were felt in various cities across the country, including the capital, Islamabad.
Residents in the Islamabad fled their homes as walls started swaying. Pakistan’s meteorological office said the earthquake was a magnitude 7.7.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage thus far. However, it is worth noting that a 7.5 magnitude earthquake in 2005 resulted in the deaths of over 74,000 individuals in Pakistan.
Earlier today, a small earthquake struck Taiwan’s capital city of Taipei, with no immediate reports of damage. Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes.
