JAMMU: J&K Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a Jaish-e-Mohammad terror module by arresting three of its affiliates, who were ferrying arms and ammunition from Jammu to Kashmir in an oil tanker, from Jammu’s Narwal area. A huge cache of arms and ammunition — including three AK-56 rifles, a pistol, nine magazines, 191 rounds of ammunition and six grenades — was seized.
The module was tasked with transporting weapons sent by a Pakistan-based handler from across the border to Kashmir, said a police spokesperson, adding: “The accused, travelling in an oil tanker, were questioned during routine checking at a checkpoint. On finding their answers evasive, they were put under interrogation.”
The arrested trio was identified as Mohammad Yaseen, Farhan Farooq and Farooq Ahmed of Pampore. During the investigation, police learnt that the truck driver was involved in a UAPA case in Awantipora. “After sustained interrogation, the driver, Mohammad Yaseen, disclosed that they had come to Jammu to pick up weapons on the behest of one Shahbaaz, a JeM handler in Pakistan. He also confessed to having concealed a consignment of arms and ammunition in the oil tanker,” the spokesperson said.
On November 7, police claimed to have arrested an al-Qaida operative in J&K’s Ramban district.
