BHUBANESWAR: A 15-year-old elephant died Tuesday of injuries suffered after a crude bomb it had swallowed exploded in its mouth two weeks back, reports Riyan Ramanath. The bomb was planted in a pumpkin to hunt wild boars.
Wildlife officials said the bomb damaged internal tissues of the elephant’s tusks and severed its tongue from the oral cavity. The jumbo was unable to eat and was in extreme pain, said veterinarians at the Nandankanan Zoo, where it was being treated.
