The police detained a man and a woman who were protesting outside Parliament premises using colour smoke canisters.

Karti Chidambaram on security breach
“Suddenly two young men around 20 years old jumped into the House from the visitor’s gallery and had canisters in their hand. These canisters were emitting yellow smoke. One of them was attempting to run towards the Speaker’s chair. They were shouting some slogans. The smoke could have been poisonous. This is a serious breach of security especially on 13th December, the day when Parliament was attacked in 2001,” Karti Chidambaram told ANI.
House adjourned amidst chaos
Following this breach, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until pm. The disruption came on a significant day, as Chowdhury noted, “This is certainly a security breach because today we observed the death anniversary of people who sacrificed their lives in the 2001 Parliament attack…”
Concerns over Parliamentary security
This incident raises serious concerns about the security measures in place at the Parliament. The breach occurring on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack adds to the gravity of the situation, calling for a thorough investigation and review of security protocols to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The incident in the Lok Sabha serves as a stark reminder of the need for stringent security measures in such high-profile government settings. The quick action of the MPs and security staff in handling the situation prevented any harm, but the event underscores the importance of constant vigilance and robust security systems to safeguard the nation’s democratic institutions.
