NASHIK: A man was arrested by the Nandgaon police for committing highway robbery with his four to five other associates in crime.
The arrested person is identified as Karan Sanjay Pawar of Dheku village of Nandgaon taluka.
The police said that a 30-year-old truck driver Kiran Rindhe of Bolthan, Nandgaon was carrying cotton bundles to Gujarat on January 18 night. At around 10 pm when he was passing from the Kasari ghat section four to five persons started pelting stones on the truck and broke the glasses of the driver’s cabin of the truck.
Kiran Rindhe , however, did not stop the truck and escaped from the scene. He called his brother on the cellphone and told him that some people pelted stones on his truck to stop him in a bid to rob him.
Kiran then stopped the truck near a temple on the highway and found that a truck was damaged in a similar way. When he asked the driver, the latter told him some people pelted stones on his truck, stopped him and robbed him of his cash and cellphones.
In the meanwhile, Rindhe’s brother took some people with him and reached the Kasari Ghat section and nabbed Karan Pawar while the other robbers escaped from the scene.
They took him to the police station after which the police recovered cash and cellphones worth over Rs 13,000. The Nandgaon police are tracing the other robbers involved in the case.
