MUMBAI: Weather gods conspired on Saturday night and had the air traffic controllers of Amritsar and Lahore coordinate to guide an IndiGo aircraft that was forced to deviate and overfly Pakistan airspace because of bad weather.
The episode occurred soon after IndiGo flight 6E-645 departed from Amritsar for Ahmedabad around 8 pm. Inclement weather had the pilots take a deviation over Atari into Pakistan airspace. The flight looped around Lahore and then tracked southeast to enter Indian airspace in a detour over the neighbouring country that lasted about 20 minutes.
“The deviation was well coordinated with Pakistan by Amritsar air traffic control via telephone. The crew was in continuous contact with Pakistan on radio telephony and the flight landed in Ahmedabad safely post the deviation,” IndiGo said in a statement.
