In 2022, a total 3.04 lakh yatris had visited the cave.
A senior J&K government functionary said while the ice shivlinga in the holy cave melted on July 23, the devotees continue to visit it. The daily numbers, however, have come down.
The yatra this year spans 62 days and is due to conclude in August 31.
The Amarnath cave this year also received foreign pilgrims from USA, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia and South-Korea. Some distinguished personalities who performed the pilgrimage this year include badminton player Saina Nehwal, Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan and Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Swami.
“Amidst elaborate security arrangements by J&K Police, Central armed police forces (CAPFs) and J&K administration, the yatra has been incident-free with proper arrangements for langar, health-care, sanitation and transportation. Hi-tech equipments including drones, advanced technical instruments etc were deployed while quick response teams, avalanche rescue teams, medical teams and NDRF teams have ensured safe passage of devotees in the difficult mountainous terrain,” said a J&K government official.
As many as 44 yatris have died so far this year due to health-related reasons, as compared to 71 deaths last year, which included 15 fatalities in flash floods.
