NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Saturday inaugurate a mega cooperative conference which is being organised here to discuss various trends in the cooperative movement and chalk out future strategic policy directions for the growth of the sector in the country.
The Prime Minister will on the occasion launch an e-commerce platform ‘NCUI Haat‘ for cooperative products. He will also unveil a cooperative extension and advisory services portal, focusing on a ‘learning management system’ that provides information and services for cooperative members, leaders, managers and the general public.
The two-day event — 17th Indian Cooperative Congress — organised by the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), will be held with the theme ‘Amrit Kaal-Prosperity through Cooperation for a Vibrant India’. Union home and cooperation minister Amit Shah will preside over the inaugural session. This year’s Indian Cooperative Congress is special as it falls on July 1, which is also being celebrated as the International Day of Cooperatives.
Representatives of eight countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia and Philippines will attend the conference where the participants will discuss various reform measures and showcase the best practices being adopted by the successful cooperatives across the globe.
The ICC is being organized by the NCUI, an apex organization of the cooperative movement, at regular intervals to discuss the issues/ challenges before the cooperative movement so as to formulate effective action-plans for future. The last Congress was organised in the year 2013 which was inaugurated by the then President Pranab Mukherjee.
“The objective of the Congress is to discuss and deliberate upon the key issues, confronting the cooperative sector and chalk out an effective roadmap for the ‘Amrit Kaal‘,” said NCUI president Dileep Sanghani.
