BHOPAL: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s extensive campaign efforts, featuring 14 rallies and a strategic appeal to various voter segments, have translated into a resounding victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh. As election results unfold on Sunday, the ruling party has clinched 33 seats and leads in 131 out of 230 constituencies, showcasing the success of Modi’s outreach strategy.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by Union home minister Amit Shah, navigated the state’s political landscape, targeting anti-incumbency sentiments.Modi’s rallying cry, “MP ke mann mein Modi, Modi ke mann mein MP,” resonated widely, fostering widespread acceptance during the campaign.
A crucial element of the BJP’s victory lies in chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan‘s emphasis on the flagship Ladli Behna Yojana, a scheme that provides Rs 1,250 per month to women. The program, benefiting a staggering 1.31 crore women out of 2.72 crore women voters, played a pivotal role in winning over the female electorate.
Union home minister Amit Shah, actively involved in poll management and strategy formation, capitalized on the Ram temple issue during his campaign, projecting celebrations in Madhya Pradesh on December 3 and January 22, coinciding with the assembly election results and the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, respectively.
In an unconventional move, the BJP refrained from projecting a chief ministerial face from the state, opting to seek votes for the party symbol “lotus” instead. This strategic decision, breaking from the tradition since 2003, aimed to counter anti-incumbency sentiments.
The BJP’s meticulous planning included the appointment of Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Cabinet colleague Ashwini Vaishnaw as the election in-charge and co-incharge, respectively. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar led the election management committee.
Madhya Pradesh, which recorded an impressive 77.82% voter turnout on November 17, witnessed an extensive campaign by Union ministers and leaders, including Yogi Adityanath, bolstering the BJP’s efforts. Meanwhile, Congress deployed star campaigners Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, with State Congress President Kamal Nath actively addressing election meetings.
As chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, fondly known as “mama” among voters, celebrated victory, the BJP’s adept electoral strategy and Modi’s charismatic appeal proved instrumental in securing a robust mandate in Madhya Pradesh.
