NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday sought the Maharashtra Speaker’s response within two weeks to a petition filed by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sunil Prabhu alleging that there was no progress in adjudication of the disqualification petitions against CM Eknath Shinde and 38 other rebel MLAs pending for more than one year.
Prabhu, who was the Sena’s chief whip when the revolt against Thackeray took place in June last year, said the Speaker was disobeying the May 11 judgment of a five-judge SC bench which, without giving much relief to the Thackeray group, had asked the speaker to expeditiously decide the pending cross-disqualification petitions.
Agency reports from Mumbai quoted Speaker Rahul Narwekar as saying, “My office has not officially received any notice from the Supreme Court yet. Once I receive the notice, we will study it and respond accordingly.”
