NEW DELHI: Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said that the government has set up a committee of officers and industry representatives to look at more legal provisions that can be decriminalised and he intends to seek the help of judiciary in putting an end to nearly one crore cases which are now part of the Jan Vishwas legislation, which was cleared by both Houses of Parliament.
The minister said that the parliamentary panel that had examined the Bill had proposed that the provisions should be implemented retrospectively but the law ministry was of the view that this was not possible. As a result, he said, the government did not incorporate the provision in the legislation.
He said that the amendments are part of the government’s efforts to make life easier for citizens.
