A 27-year-old man was arrested by Hyderabad Police in Bihar’s Patna for cheating people under the pretext that they had won the Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) lottery.
On October 2, 2021, a woman in Hyderabad received a call in which she was informed that she had won a lottery of Rs 25 lakh by KBC. The person on the call had also directed her regarding the withdrawal procedure. The caller advised her to deposit certain amounts towards various fees.
Some other people, claiming to be the bank manager, had also spoken to her and convinced her to send money. She had sent a total of Rs 39 lakh in the name of different charges.
Soon after she had deposited the money, the people who had called her stopped talking to her and she realised that she had been duped. She complained to the police upon realising the fraud.
A case was registered by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police, and they arrested Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Patna, Bihar. The police also seized 16 mobile phones, 73 debit cards, 30 SIM cards, 11 bank passbooks, and two chequebooks found in his possession.
The team, led by Inspector G Venkata Ramireddy, and officials under the direct supervision of KVM Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, Hyderabad, cracked the case and arrested Rakesh from Patna.
