Hours after actor Gautami Tadimalla quit the BJP citing “lack of support”, the party’s Tamil Nadu unit chief K Annamalai said there was a misunderstanding and the party is actually on her side.
On Friday, Gautami Tadimalla ended her 25-year stint with the BJP, alleging “lack of support” and collusion by some party members with a person who allegedly duped her.
Reacting to this, Annamalai said, “I spoke to Gautami Tadimalla on the phone and she demanded a very fast action…we had supported her to get the FIR registered, but now she feels that some BJP workers are trying to protect the accused. Nobody is trying to protect him (the accused). I had a chat with Gautami today also. There is a misunderstanding.”
“Police have to look into it and take action. Nobody in the BJP is trying to protect the accused and he is not connected with the BJP…the accused was with Gautami for 25 years as a friend and he had cheated. It is a case between Gautami and him. We are on the side of Gautami here,” he added.
In her resignation letter, Gautami said she stood at an “unimaginable crisis point” in her life as she announced her decision to quit the party with a “very heavy heart and deep disillusionment”.
Gautami alleged that a person, C Alagappan, befriended her 20 years ago, seeing her “vulnerability and isolation”. “As I was not only an orphan who had just lost both my parents, but also a single mother with an infant child,” Gautami said in her letter.
Gautami said she had entrusted Alagappan with managing her properties. “I entrusted him with the sale of my lands and it was just recently that I discovered he had defrauded me of the same. All while pretending to welcome me and my daughter as a part of his family,” she said in the letter.
“It is shattering to realise that there is a complete lack of support and moreover, that several senior members of the BJP have been enabling Alagappan to dodge justice and absconding for the last 40 days even after FIRs have been filed,” alleged Gautami.
She stated that she still hoped that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, the police department and the judicial system would help get her justice.
