Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, speaking on the Supreme Court’s observation on Nupur Sharma and her Prophet remark, said the atmosphere of anger and hate in the country is created by the Union government and not one person alone, referring to Nupur Sharma.
Addressing the media in Kerala’s Wayanad, the Congress leader said, “The Supreme Court has said this. But the atmosphere in the country is created by the ruling government. It is not the person who made this statement. It is prime minister, home minister, the BJP and RSS who have created this environment in the country. This environment of anger and this environment of hatred. This is against the interest of India and our people.”
“The Congress party builds bridges between people, we build bridges between communities, we bring people together. So what we are seeing in the country is what is being done by the RSS and the BJP. This is completely against our philosophy. We don’t believe in solving problems with hatred and anger,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the apex court slammed Nupur Sharma over her Prophet remark and said her “irresponsible statements set the entire country on fire”. The court also said that her remarks against Prophet Muhammad were made either for “cheap publicity, a political agenda or for some nefarious activities”.

The former Congress chief, who is on a visit to his parliamentary constituency, also responded to an attack on his office in Wayanad.
He said, “It is unfortunate. It is not my office, it belongs to the people of Wayanad. It is silly.”
On June 24, Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the youth wing of CPI(M), took out a march and vandalised Rahul Gandhi’s office in Wayanad. The protest was carried out against Wayanad MP for allegedly not interfering in the Supreme Court order on the eco-sensitive zone (ESZ).
“They are children who acted irresponsibly. It’s OK. I have no hostility towards them,” Rahul Gandhi stated.
