The Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Ajit Pawar, is hopeful that the decision of the Supreme Court regarding a plea seeking suspension of 16 rebel MLAs might turn out in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s favour.
“All the lawyers with whom I have consulted said that according to the laws, if to be followed precisely, that Supreme Court must take a decision against 16 rebel MLAs,” former deputy chief minister said.
The top court will hear the plea of the MVA government seeking the suspension of 16 rebel MLAs. Shiv Sena leader Sunil Prabhu had sought the suspension of newly inducted Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and 15 more rebel MLAs against whom disqualification petitions have been filed.
When asked about the SC’s hearing on the suspension of 16 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs, Ajit Pawar said, “We know what has happened in the last few days. What does rules say? Law says? What does the anti-defection law say? Experts and lawyers are looking into it.”
Pawar, who is in Pune for Ashadhi Ekadashi and Eid ul-Adha, said that he agrees with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray that they are the real Shiv Sena.
AJIT PAWAR ON METRO CARSHED PROJECT
Talking about suspension of the development decisions by BJP-Shinde Govt that were taken during the MVA period, the NCP leader said “Governments come and go, but there is no need to suspend all the decisions by previous govt”.
When asked about the present government’s decision to reverse the metro carshed construction from Kanjurmarg back to Array forests, Ajit Pawar said, “The cost of the metro has already increased by 10,000 crore when we were in govt.”
The former deputy chief minister warned “Officials had told me if a decision is not taken and the project is delayed, the cost will increase again by 15,000 crores. This extra cost will have to be levied on commuters travelling in this metro.”

‘DECISION SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH EXPERTS’ OPINION’
“Such decisions on political agendas should be kept aside and decisions must be taken with experts’ opinion,” he said.
Ajit Pawar said that when Uddhav Thackeray became the Chief Minister, his decision was clear. But in the case of the present government, Devendra Fadnavis is adamant that it should happen in Array only, he added,
“With experience of 30-32 years in politics, Ajit Pawar said that he feels that any project should be planned and executed. Keeping in mind, it should suffice appropriately for next years,” he said.
“I think development projects should be supported by all. The government may belong to any party. That development work will be executed with a vision in the coming 50 years,” the LoP said.
MUNICIPAL AND GRAM PANCHAYAT ELECTIONS
Ajit Pawar said that he was specially in Pune for Municipal Corporation and Gram Panchayat elections meeting. He said, “Let me make the stand of MVA clear and during elections the OBC community should get reservation.”
This election has been declared without reservation and the apex court will hear the matter on July 12.
MUMBAI UNIVERSITY NOMENCLATURE
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari has suggested Veer Sarvakar’s name for Mumbai University, while students have suggested the name of Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj.
Ajit Pawar said, “These are great names and both names cannot be used. Governor is a huge post and he and the students’ organisation must sit and solve the issue.”
When asked about CM’s viral video in which he is talking over the phone, Pawar said, “I have done same things. But I don’t switch on cameras. You know me, when needed I ask to connect call not cameras.”
