After the murder of a Hindu man in Rajasthan’s Udaipur over a social media post, actor Pranitha Subhash tweeted an image with the message: Hindu lives matter. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Pranitha said she believes her campaign will ensure speedy justice.
The Hindu man, Kanhaiya Lal, was beheaded by two men—Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad—in broad daylight on June 28, allegedly over a social media post in support of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. She was in news for her remarks on Prophet Mohammed, which sparked widespread protests across the nation.
“If this [murder] happened somewhere in Kashmir, which is a Hindu minority state and where there is militancy and terrorism, I can at least console myself by thinking this is a by-product of all of this. But this has happened in a state like Rajasthan. This was just to prove a point,” Pranitha Subhash told India Today.

“This is not the first time. Whether it was the Palghar Sadhus, Kishan Bharwad, or Kanhaiya Lal, now the need has come that we stand up for this. Is there an end to hate crimes?” she added.
The Kannada actor also said that after initial outrage and hashtags on Twitter and other social media platforms, issues such as these die down without any solution.
“Days later, it [Twitter hashtags] surfaces again with the murder of someone who is innocent. This should not continue and the time has come for Hindus to stand up for ourselves and defend our dharma,” she claimed.
According to Pranitha, ‘Hindu lives matter‘ is not just a hashtag or campaign and actors and directors within the film fraternity believe in the same ideology as hers.
“I believe this [campaign] will speed up justice. The idea that we are a strong community and we will not take things lightly is something I wanted to put forward,” she said.
