The centre for the first time has made its stance clear on implementation of Uniform Civil Code, which has been submitted to the Supreme Court. According the the centre, varied laws hamper the nation’s unity and therefore it favours the implementation of Uniform Civil Code. The centre further added that different laws for different people in the country makes unity difficult, as many personal laws are an affront to unity. Earlier the Supreme Court had sought comprehensive response from the centre within three weeks, on a batch of petitions seeking uniformity in laws for civil matters like age of marriage, grounds of divorce, succession, adoption, guardianship and maintenance.
