Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, via video-conferencing. Speaking at the inauguration PM Modi said, ‘In the last few years, Bangladesh has made remarkable progress. Every Indian is proud of that and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to contribute to this development journey of Bangladesh.’ He added, ‘I am confident that this pipeline will further accelerate the development of Bangladesh, and will be an excellent example of increasing connectivity between the two countries.’ The two PMs had joined the groundbreaking ceremony for the pipeline in September 2018. The newly inaugurated pipeline stretches 125km inside Bangladesh’s territory and 5km inside India. This is the first cross-border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh which Delhi would use. The Pipeline has been built from approximately Rs 3.46 billion, drawn from the Indian Line of Credit (LoC), to export diesel to Dhaka and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation officials.
