Devotees thronged Ganga Ghat to take a holy dip on the festive occasion of Mauni Amavasya. People were seen taking a holy dip at the Ganga Ghats in Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Haridwar. Women were seen singing devotional songs with earthen lamps in their hands and performing rituals. Speaking about security arrangements Rajeev Narayan Mishra, DIG, Prayagraj, said, “A large number of devotees have started gathering here at the ghat. All security arrangements have been made. Till now, around 18–20 lakh devotees have taken the holy dip. Deep water barricading, NDRF, SDRF, divers, and other arrangements have been made in the water for the safety of the devotees. All necessary information is being given to the devotees coming here through the public address system. Teams of the ATS, RAF, STF, and bomb disposable squad have all been deployed. Women police personnel have been deployed to help the women devotees coming here.” According to Hindu belief, taking a dip at the Sangam on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya is considered highly auspicious.
