Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while addressing a press conference on November 23 laid out 4 pillars to tackle the challenges emerging from deepfake. He also informed about the meeting that he chaired with concerned stakeholders from social media. The IT minister also acknowledged that the deepfake emerged as new threat to society. “Deepfake has emerged as a new threat in the society. We need to take immediate steps. Today a meeting was held with social media platforms. We’ve to focus on four aspects-detection, prevention, reporting mechanism, and awareness of deepfake needs to be increased. New regulations will be brought and in the coming weeks, efforts will be made to complete the drafting of regulations,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw.
