JMM leader Mahua Maji on December 21 reacted to the mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee and called it an unfortunate incident as it sets a bad example. She also said that this precedent was first started by the BJP when many of its leaders mimicked senior Congress leaders. Speaking further, she said that all that the opposition wanted was a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security breach in the Parliament. Had he done that, this chaos would not have occurred and proceedings would have taken place smoothly, she added.“First of all, I think the mimicry was unfortunate. It should not have happened because this sets a wrong precedent. But this precedent was started by the BJP. Several of its senior leaders had mimicked senior leaders of Congress and other parties. Perhaps this happened under that precedent, but this is unfortunate. I condemn this. There should be a healthy environment in the Parliament…They (Opposition) had just demanded that the Home Minister should come and speak for 10 minutes on the security breach. Had he done that, this chaos would not have occurred and proceedings would have taken place smoothly…It seems that this might be a strategy by the ruling side, to not speak initially on any issue that is demanded and then speak after all the Bills are passed,” said Mahua Maji.
