There have been sharp reactions to Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer Kapil Sibal’s remarks against the Supreme Court. Sibal was speaking at a People’s Tribunal organised by several NGOs where he claimed that he had no hope left in the Supreme Court. He alleged that sensitive cases are assigned only to certain judges and the outcomes are known. He also alleged that judges are appointed through compromise. Now, SC lawyer Shashank Shekhar Jha has written to Attorney-General KK Venugopal seeking permission to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Sibal. As per established procedure, it is necessary to seek permission from the Attorney General or the Solicitor General before beginning contempt proceedings before the Apex court.
