Delhi Haj Committee Chairperson Kausar Jahan while speaking to ANI on July 31 lauded the Modi government’s efforts towards the rise of women’s participation in the Haj Pilgrimage. She said, “The fact that Muslim women for the pilgrimage without ‘Mehram’ (male guardian) is in itself record-breaking. This amounts to 4,314 women. It is notable that the number this year is highest compared to previous years. This is a big example of women empowerment. This is Modi ji’s new India in which women are doing everything alongside men that they earlier could not do.” Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Haj Pilgrimage this year was very special because it saw the participation of over 4,000 Muslim women without Mehram.
