In a unique initiative under the ‘Meri Mitti Mera Desh’ initiative, a ‘Veer Vatika’ has been established in the Government Degree College in Samba, Jammu and Kashmir. 18 trees have been planted in Samba to honour the bravehearts who made supreme sacrifices for the country. The saplings were introduced in the presence of the relatives of the soldiers including their wives, daughter, and sons. The idea is to inculcate a feeling of patriotism among the youth studying in the college and to pay homage to the bravehearts. Earlier the schools, colleges, and roads have been named after the valorous soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir who were killed in action during wars with Pakistan and in fight to eradicate Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Filled with pride, the families expressed happiness and said that in this way the bravehearts will be remembered forever and will also inspire the youth to follow their lead.
