Mohammed Ismail Mir, a renowned innovator from Bandipora district, has ingeniously modified the Kangri, enhancing its functionality for all weather conditions, earning him the moniker “Kashmir’s Newton.” Beyond the Kangri, he has also created an automatic ventilator, an automatic disinfectant spray system, and even a radio station. Ismail’s modified Kangri can be powered not only by traditional charcoal but also by water and electricity, making it versatile for both winter warmth and summer cooling. Aged 63, Ismail Mir has received recognition and admiration throughout the region for his inventive accomplishments. Despite being a school dropout, he earned the nickname “Newton” from a teacher who was impressed by his innovative prowess and deep interest in Newton’s laws. As a self-taught electrician and engineer, Ismail’s fascination with electricity and mechanics ignited at the age of 7, as he explored his grandfather’s attic filled with electrical components. Currently, Ismail is involved in multiple ongoing projects and has submitted nine innovations to the Science and Technology department.
