Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Qatar’s Doha on February 14, following his two-day visit to the UAE, according to Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra. The purpose of the Qatar visit is to bolster bilateral ties between the two nations. During his visit, PM Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad, the Emir of Qatar, and other high-ranking officials. This will mark the Prime Minister’s second visit to Qatar. Currently, India and Qatar enjoy strong bilateral trade amounting to $20 billion. The announcement of PM Modi’s visit came shortly after Qatar’s decision to release eight former Indian Navy personnel, whose death sentences were commuted to varying jail terms. Seven of them have already returned home. India expressed appreciation for Qatar’s decision, which facilitated the release and repatriation of the individuals arrested in August 2022. The charges against the former Indian Navy personnel, related to espionage, were not publicly disclosed by either Qatari authorities or the Indian government.
