External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on February 23 attended the Inaugural Session of the Asia Economic Dialogue 2023 in Pune, Maharashtra. During the media interaction, EAM Jaishankar talked about how the BJP Government is different from other governments regarding the neighbourhood and how they are helping their neighbours. During the media interaction at the inaugural session of the Asia Economic Dialogue 2023 in Pune today, he said, “After 2014, there has been a really profound transformation in the way in which India has approached its neighbours and it is because of the Indian leadership and the Indian system. In terms of the connectivity metrics of projects and different kinds of developmental partnership expressions, there is a big change in each of these metrics. Today, we have a very major connectivity project in Maldives, the Greater Maldives Connectivity Project. We have never done a project of that scale anywhere in the world. We are today supplying electricity to our neighbours, except Bhutan. From Bhutan, we are buying electricity and now we have started to buy electricity from Nepal as well. Selling them electricity is very important because they need it. Buying electricity is equally important because it’s a regular revenue source for them. In the last ten years, the entire neighbourhood has started to realise that India is prepared to put its money where the mouth is.”
